How It All Began
Hi there, I’m Marisa—mom of four, full-time business owner, and someone who used to think a yard was just something to mow on weekends. Everything changed in 2019 when I brought home two tiny swallowtail caterpillars from a local nursery. I thought it would be a fun science project for my kids, but what happened next was life-changing. Watching those caterpillars grow and transform sparked something deep in me. It wasn’t long before our yard was filled with native plants, butterflies, bees, and birds. That same year, we certified our front yard as a Monarch Waystation—but more than that, we realized that even our small suburban yard could make a real impact. As someone who juggles running a busy embroidery business with raising a family, I don’t have a lot of spare time—but the time I do have, I pour into this. Because this, right here—helping people reconnect with nature—is my true passion.

The Transformation & Mission
That tiny moment of curiosity turned into a personal awakening that reshaped how I see the world. I realized I had been “plant and insect blind” most of my life—never noticing the intricate world of pollinators right under my nose. Now I see everything: the quiet cooperation of bees and wasps, butterflies laying eggs, and even insects delicately cleaning themselves at our garden water dish. Every native plant I add is an act of hope and a stand against sterile, lifeless landscapes. My kids now point out goldenrod and milkweed while we’re out running errands. Neighbors stop to ask about our wildflower-filled yard. And even in the thick of running a business, this work—this passion project—grounds me. It reminds me that change doesn’t require perfection or free time—it just requires intention. Through Nature and Blooms, my art, and my book-in-progress We Are Nature: A Journey Home, I hope to share the joy and deep peace that comes from living closer to the wild. I truly believe every yard, no matter how small, can be a sanctuary—and every person can be a steward of something beautiful.
