A butterfly release is always exciting!

This handsome Eastern Black Swallowtail (EBS) butterfly was waiting for me when I went to check in the greenhouse this morning. This particular butterfly went into chrysalis late summer of 2019. Nature is AMAZING! Here in the midwest we have many butterflies that 'overwinter'. The EBS is one of them. They enter into 'Diapause' an insects version of "hibernation". We took some time to admired him and capture some photos, then released him.
